Energy Transmission

This section discusses energy transmission (electric transmission lines and oil and gas pipelines), the environmental impacts associated with transmission projects, and mitigation measures that could be used to avoid or reduce those impacts.

Follow the links below to learn about energy transmission, and the environmental impacts of energy transmission projects, including impacts from site evaluation, construction, operation and maintenance, and decommissioning and reclamation phases of energy transmission projects. You will also find information about mitigation measures that can be used to reduce environmental impacts.

Energy Transmission and Energy Development

Transmission lines and pipelines provide the most reasonable means to transport energy (electricity, natural gas, and crude oil) over long distances. Environmental impacts from energy developments (i.e., wind, solar, oil and gas), and coal are discussed separately, and must be considered in addition to the impacts presented here.
