Carbon Sequestration: General Information

Web sites with useful generic information about carbon sequestration.

Follow the links below to learn more about carbon sequestration and ongoing planning efforts related to carbon sequestration.

What Goes Around Comes Around: The Carbon Cycle

This Web site, hosted by National Science Digital Library (NSDL) Wiki, provides an extensive discussion of The Carbon Cycle on its Middle School Portal. The site contains background information, lesson materials, and learning activities for educators.

Carbon Sequestration Documentaries

A series of 30-minute documentaries, produced by Prairie Public Broadcasting and the Plains CO2 Reduction Partnership, are available on this Web site. These documentaries are geared for the general public and cover carbon sequestration, carbon markets, and land use practices that promote sequestration.

DOE's Carbon Sequestration Program

The DOE Office of Fossil Energy supports a series of efforts as part of its Carbon Sequestration Program. The program Web site includes background information on carbon sequestration. DOE's National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) Carbon Sequestration Program hosts a Web site providing information about carbon dioxide, greenhouse gases, carbon sequestration, and carbon capture in the form of Carbon Sequestration Frequently Asked Questions.

Carbon Sequestration in Terrestrial Ecosystems

The DOE has funded a multi-laboratory research program called the Carbon Sequestration in Terrestrial Ecosystems (CSITE). The Web site hosted by this program provides background information on terrestrial ecosystems on its Frequently Asked Questions page.

EPA's Carbon Sequestration in Agriculture and Forestry

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency maintains a Web site with information on terrestrial sequestration and agriculture and forestry practices that promote such sequestration.

Plains CO2 Reduction Partnership

The Plains CO2 Reduction (PCOR) Partnership, a partnership covering all or part of nine U.S. states and four Canadian provinces, is supporting practical and environmentally sound carbon dioxide (CO2) sequestration projects. Its Web site provides basic information about Carbon Sequestration, Climate Change, and CO2, and a series of video clips.

West Coast Regional Partnership

The West Coast Regional Carbon Sequestration Partnership (known as WESTCARB) is a DOE-funded research effort exploring opportunities in seven Western states and one Canadian province for removing CO2 from the atmosphere by enhancing natural processes, and by capturing it at industrial facilities before it is emitted and storing it securely underground. Its Web site provides useful background information on carbon sequestration.
